Unit 5, Day 3: Objective: Students will define the y intercept in math as well as translate it to a real world meaning. Define: The y intercept in math is the point at which the line crosses the y axis. (i.e. where the x value equals 0) An example of y intercept in the real world is that when you get the sizes and prices of drinks, the y intercept would be what you are paying for the cup, before anything ever gets put into it.
Pictures: These pictures show what the y intercept is and how it can be found. The y intercept in real life can be used, for example, in stores when you are buying something and you can find out how much you are paying for just the container.
